SLCARP has initiated a programme to enhance the capacity of the scientists in NARS. As one of the steps forward, SLCARP in collaboration with AIT (Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand) had conducted a Professional Leadership Development programme for Agricultural Research Management at AIT. The programme was designed by SLCARP and AIT together focusing Development of Leadership skills in Agricultural Research Managers in NARS. A training group of 24 participants were selected from all Research Institutes representing NARS including Department of Agriculture, Department of Export Agriculture, Department of Forest, Department of National Botanic Garden, Tea Research Institute, Rubber Research Institute, Coconut Research Institute, Sugarcane Research Institute, Palmyrah Research Institute, Veterinary Research Institute, HARTI, NARA, Institute of Post-Harvest Technology, SLCARP and Ministry of Agriculture.
The programme was implemented from 30th May to 10th June 2018. Participants were exposed to well organized technical sessions on the means of Leadership Development in Agricultural Sector. Visits to agricultural machinery workshops, Agricultural laboratories and cultural and educational sites provided a vast knowledge on Agriculture trends in the world. Similarly, lectures were conducted by well-equipped academic staff and coordination was done tremendously by both SLCARP and AIT for the success of the programme. The closing ceremony was headed by Her Excellency the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand Madam Kshenuka Seneviratne. Participants were awarded a certificate for successfully completion of the training programme.
