Workshop on Research Priorities for Livestock and Poultry Products
The Workshop on Research Priorities for Livestock and Poultry Products took place on December 18, 2023, at the SLCARP. The workshop aimed to identify key research priorities in the livestock and poultry sector to address existing gaps through research and development. A total of 22 research professionals from Veterinary Research Institutes, various state Universities, and the private sector organizations participated in the event.
Dr. J. D. H. Wijewardena, Chairman of SLCARP, welcomed all participants and Dr. (Mrs.) Guana Gunawardhana, Chairperson of the National Committee on Livestock and Poultry, explained the objectives of the workshop. The participants were divided into subgroups to focus on key sections such as animal breeding and reproduction, animal feed and nutrition, animal health and hygiene, safety and quality of Livestock and Poultry products, production systems, economics and marketing, livestock waste management and animal welfare.
The workshop provided a platform for knowledge sharing among experts in order to gain a collective understanding of the challenges faced by the sector. It emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among researchers, policy makers, and industry stakeholders to achieve improvements in Livestock and Poultry production.
