Clean Sri Lanka Begins at Home: SLCARP’s Sustainable Gardening and Landscaping Initiative

The "Clean Sri Lanka" concept introduced by the Government, inspired the Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (SLCARP) to organize a special Gardening and Landscaping Programme on the 3rd of April 2025. The initiative was spearheaded by Chairman Prof. R. Saman Dharmakeerthi, with the active support of Mr. Prabath Wimal Kumara (Director/Secretary) and Dr. Chandra Padmini (Deputy Director).

The programme aimed to promote environmental sustainability and align with the national agenda of creating cleaner and greener surroundings. Under the Zero Waste concept, the staff participated in constructing and filling a composting pit to recycle degradable garden waste.  In order to enhance beauty of the SLCARP premises, vegetable and flower plants were planted. This highlight the commitment of the SLCARP to sustainable waste management and circular agricultural practices. The programme not only fostered teamwork but also strengthened the organization's contribution to a cleaner, greener Sri Lanka.
