Enhancing Research Proposal Writing Skills for National Agricultural Research System (NARS) Scientists
Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (SLCARP), in collaboration with the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Perdeniya, successfully completed the 2nd and 3rd workshop on “Enhancing Research Proposal Writing Skills for National Agricultural Research System (NARS) Scientists” on 22-23 September and 29-30 October 2025.
The program was designed to strengthen the capacity of NARS researchers in developing high-quality, competitive, and impactful research proposals that align with national agricultural development priorities.
The workshop was facilitated by a distinguished panel of experts, including Prof. B. Marambe, Prof. Devika De Costa, Prof. W.A.U. Vitharana, Prof. T. Sivananthawerl, Prof. M.I.M. Mowjood, Prof. G.L.L.P. Silva, and Prof. H.M. Gunathilake.
Throughout the sessions, participants gained hands-on experience in formulating researchable questions, conducting systematic literature reviews, designing robust methodologies, addressing ethical considerations, and developing realistic timelines and performance indicators. The program also guided participants in distinguishing between research outputs, outcomes, and impacts, as well as in synthesizing cohesive concept notes into proposals and engaging in constructive peer review.
At the conclusion of the program, certificates were awarded to all participants who successfully completed the training, recognizing their commitment to advancing Sri Lanka’s agricultural research and development.
This workshop served as an important platform for enhancing research proposal writing competencies within Sri Lanka’s agricultural research community and promoting a culture of excellence and innovation in scientific inquiry.
