The Koha Library Management System was successfully implemented in the libraries of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) institutions under the project, "Revitalizing the Agri-Net Library Support System and Dissemination of Agricultural Information to Stakeholders." This initiative was undertaken to modernize library operations, improve resource management, and strengthen library networking among NARS institutions.

As part of the implementation process, a capacity-building program was conducted on 30th March 2026 for Library Assistants and Agricultural Research Assistants responsible for library networking activities. The program was facilitated by Mr. Budhin Kumara, Senior Assistant Librarian (IT), University of Moratuwa, who provided technical guidance on the installation, configuration, and effective use of the Koha Library Management System. Participants also received hands-on training in bibliographic data entry, cataloguing, circulation management, database maintenance, and other essential library management functions.

The implementation of the Koha Library Management System is expected to standardize library management practices across NARS institutions, enhance the sharing of library resources, improve access to agricultural information, and strengthen information services for researchers, extension personnel, policymakers, and other stakeholders. This initiative represents a significant step towards developing an integrated and efficient digital library network within the National Agricultural Research System.
