AGRINET Awareness Program 2025

Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy successfully conducted the AGRINET Awareness Program 2025 on 29th August 2025 at Tea Research Institute (TRI) of Sri Lanka, to enhance awareness and utilization of the AGRINET system, which serves as a comprehensive platform for agricultural research resources across Sri Lanka. This program aims to equip the researchers, students, and agricultural professionals with the skills to effectively access, navigate, and utilize the AGRINET library system and related research databases.

The event commenced with a welcome speech and overview of objectives delivered by Dr. S.M.P.C. Padmini, Deputy Director of Research Management at SLCARP, who highlighted the importance of AGRINET in supporting agricultural research and innovation in Sri Lanka.

Dr. M.A.B. Ranatunga, Director /CEO, Tea Research Institute, appreciated the SLCARP for giving the AGRINET progam for the TRI staff.

The program included several informative sessions:

  • Resources Available in Universities through the AGRINET Library System

Mr. A. Dharmaratne, Senior Assistant Librarian, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, showcased the university-based resources accessible via AGRINET.

  • Literature Searching on Databases  

Mrs. Chithra Abeygunasekara, Senior Assistant Librarian, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, provided practical guidance on conducting effective literature searches across AGRINET databases.

  • Selection of Journals for Publishing and Obtaining Support

Mrs. Thanuja Dilrukshi, Senior Assistant Librarian, Faculty of Agriculture, discussed strategies for identifying appropriate journals and leveraging institutional support for publication.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. C.R.D. Perera, Librarian, SLCARP, acknowledging the contributions of the speakers and participants in making the program a success.

This initiative underlines SLCARP’s commitment to strengthening the research ecosystem in Sri Lanka by providing easy access to agricultural knowledge and fostering collaboration among research institutions.
